Smiles That Make a Difference: A Health Brigade That Brought Well-being to Families in San Andrés
In March, San Andrés was the setting for an initiative that demonstrated that when purpose is combined with action, the impact can transform lives. “Smiles That Transform” a health brigade, was a human experience that brought well-being, hope, and support to the island’s families. With the goal of contributing to social development and improving the community’s quality of life, a free health brigade was organized for the families of San Andrés. This initiative sought to reduce barriers to accessing medical services by bringing direct care to different areas of the island and creating spaces for care, listening, and support.
What did the health brigade in San Andrés do?
For five days, the Sonrisas Descomplicadas and the Mobile Hospital led this important initiative, bringing together both national and international volunteer doctors. They all shared a common purpose: to provide timely medical care and comprehensive support to those who needed it most. Their dedication to service was evident in every consultation, every diagnosis, and every moment of connection with the families who benefited. On Vacation joined this cause, working in coordination with these organizations, reaffirming its commitment to social impact and the strengthening of the communities where it operates. During the sessions, which took place between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., patients received organized, attentive, and compassionate care, with each person treated with dedication and respect.
What health services were provided during the outreach event?
The services offered included general medicine, pediatrics, ophthalmology, dentistry, gynecology, nursing, and veterinary medicine. This made it possible to provide comprehensive care that extended not only to children, adults, and seniors, but also to pets, recognizing their role within family dynamics. Each specialty contributed its expertise to offer guidance, diagnoses, and recommendations that contribute to the community’s long-term well-being. Beyond medical care, “Sonrisas que transforman” established itself as a gathering place. It was an opportunity to listen to stories, build trust, and strengthen the social fabric.
